When the gym feels like a greenhouse and your usual session suddenly turns into a grind, optimising performance in hot weather stops being a nice idea and becomes the difference between productive training and getting flattened halfway through your second working set. Heat changes everything – output, hydration, focus, recovery and how well your supplements actually support the session.
If you train hard, sweat heavily or push through summer runs, outdoor circuits or hot commercial gyms, you need a different plan. The goal is not to pretend heat does not matter. The goal is to adjust faster than it does.
Why heat hits performance so hard
Hot weather puts extra stress on the body before the first rep even starts. Your cardiovascular system has to work harder because blood is being pulled towards the skin to help with cooling, which can mean less efficient delivery of oxygen and nutrients to working muscles.
